SUKR are fully experienced in the use of sympathetic cleaning agents, traditional water jetting, wet and dry blast cleaning and are also an approved contractor of the Stonehealth TORC (originally Jos) & DOFF cleaning systems. Both systems use little water. The DOFF is a steam based stone cleaning system, the steam/superheated water will remove moss, algae, fungi and other biological matter and will also kill off spores. The TORC system however creates a gentle swirling vortex using a mixture of low air pressure, little water and a safe inert fine granulate. The removable nozzle cone can be changed so that a larger cone can be used to clean large areas such as ashlar or smaller nozzle cone can be used for more intricate detail such as an elaborate capital or rustications.
It is now recommended that all newly cleaned and restored surfaces are treated appropriately to maintain them in this optimum ‘just cleaned’ condition. Even if surface weathering is desirable aesthetically, the substrate integrity should be treated to preserve it to prevent further cleaning or future deterioration.
