Trainee Commercial Manager / Estimator

Salary

£27,500 – £34,000 per annum

depending upon experience

Mon-Thu 07:30 to 16:30
Fri 07:30 to 15:00

Reporting to

Commercial Managers / Estimator(s)

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the estimating team from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and quotations.
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Maintain accurate cost data, records, and tender documentation.
  • Assist with project cost control, monitoring budgets and expenditure.
  • Support valuations and applications for payment.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, administration, and accounts.
  • Support the management of variations and compensation events
  • Work alongside site teams to monitor project progress and commercial performance.
  • Attend site visits and commercial meetings as required.
  • Support the preparation of commercial reports and forecasts.
  • Develop an understanding of contract requirements and commercial risks.

This role may require additional duties in line with business needs.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Office 365, in particular Microsoft Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
  • Full UK driving license

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience or placement within construction.
  • Basic understanding of contracts.
  • Knowledge or interest in refurbishment, structural repair, or heritage works.

  • Concrete repair and structural strengthening schemes
  • Façade cleaning and restoration projects
  • Masonry repair and heritage works

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office-based (Unit 5 Hurlston Court, Scarisbrick, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L40 8HN) and site-based work
  • Travel to project sites across the UK
  • Fast-paced construction environment with project deadlines
